The Blox Public Art Downtown Calgary Beautification Project

The BLOX Public Art Beautification Project is an initiative aimed at transforming Calgary's downtown urban spaces into vibrant, welcoming environments through art. As part of this project, we were selected to design and paint two large planters that will be placed in one of 21 predetermined locations. These planters, measuring 3 feet tall and 41 inches in diameter at their widest point, serve as both functional urban infrastructure and artistic statements.

In this post, we share the creative journey of designing and painting three murals for CUPS Calgary’s Family and Child Development Centre. Working closely with the CUPS team, our goal was to transform their space into a warm, welcoming environment where families and children can feel at home. We’ll take you behind the scenes to see how the murals came together—from early sketches to the final brushstrokes—and hear directly from the staff about the impact of these murals on their community. Join us as we explore how art can bring new life and a sense of peace to spaces that support and uplift those who need it most.
